A new era in agriculture is growing, where Information and Communication Technology and precision farming help share knowledge more effectively. Punjab’s Agriculture Department is using online platforms to give farmers better access to information and support.
The Department of Agriculture in Punjab began in 1860 during British rule, with rules framed in 1933. Punjab played a key role in India’s Green Revolution and has been vital to the nation’s food security. Despite having only 1.5% of India’s land, it produces a large share of wheat, rice, and cotton, consistently contributing significantly to the central food pool.
